Bulk confectionery (Swedish: Lösgodis) dates back to the 1930s when Swedish agriculture began producing refined sugar, enabling smaller shops to sell bulk candy. In 1984, the Swedish National Food Agency (Livsmedelsverket) approved its sale in larger stores, provided the candy varieties were kept in separate containers and picked with a scoop or a small bucket.
